Lancashire Farm Wools

Textile designer/maker and wool merchant

I'm a textile designer maker, weaver and wool merchant working with farmers in Bowland to promote the use of wool .... a wonderful, readily available natural resource! I buy fleeces direct from the farms which are high nature value and low intensity.

The fleeces come from traditional hill breeds including Lonks, Lancashire's own ancient breed. The fleeces are spun into yarn using minimal processing at a small mill in The Peak District. My work sells through galleries and wool through yarn retailers in the North West.

Goosnargh Gin

Producer

Multi-award winning Goosnargh Gin is lovingly crafted by Richard and Rachel Trenchard at their micro-distillery, based at the foot of Beacon Fell, on the edge of the Forest of Bowland AONB, in the parish of Goosnargh, Lancashire. Our gins are distilled in small batches by hand by us, using traditional copper alembic stills. All our gins are Chapters of our story and are created and produced by us to reflect the diversity of the area in which we live and work.

Chapter Four – Hay Time is a seasonal release and the result of a collaboration between ourselves, the Forest of Bowland AONB team and Peter Blackwell, who farms at Bell Sykes, Slaidburn. The blend of freshly cut botanicals harnesses the meadows’ rich diversity. A donation from each bottle sold will support educational projects in the AONB, promoting the preservation and restoration of meadows.

We also offer immersive foraging and distilling days in the spring and autumn. These days allow participants to learn more about botanicals in the local area, which they will collect with expert forager Adrian Rose of North West Bushcraft and ourselves. After lunch each person will create their own bottle of gin, including the botanicals they have collected, taking charge of their own mini still.

Our aim as a company is to exist in harmony with our surrounds, while promoting the area through our work and products. Our gins are available directly from us or from a number of local and national independent stockists.

Bowland Beer Hall

Brewery, Bar & Restaurant

The Beer Hall is Bowland Brewery’s flagship tasting parlour… and what a flagship it is!

One of the longest bars in Britain – 105ft 4”- is home to 42 hand pulls and hosts a minimum of 24 individual cask beers at any one time. There’s also a bank of bespoke keg beers and lagers too, not to mention an ever-changing selection of ciders. Then there’s the bottled beers and the cans… not quite every beer you can think of, more an expertly curated selection – that changes every week!

The decor and design are decidedly industrial but the ambience and the atmosphere are warm and vibrant. Find a cosy table for two in the Chimney Room or the Engine Room or join friends for a lively evening around one of the long communal tables in true Bavarian Beer Hall style.

There’s a genuine warmth to this great big space that defies description – just come along and sample it for yourself!

But it’s not just about the beer! We also have a great selection of wines, fizz and an increasing range of designer gins along with a comprehensive menu of tasty beer hall tucker.

Featuring small plates and snacks to nibble with a beer, through to crowd-pleasing classics like burgers, hot dogs, pies and salads, there’s something for everyone.
